Chris Bliss here - and yes, I'm the same guy whose Abbey Road juggling video you loved and shared with your email lists, to the tune of tens of millions of downloads. This new video's more than a little different, but so are the times, and so am I. Usually when the shiny objects come out, it's a relief or distraction from weightier subjects. I'm hoping just this once they'll help focus some attention on a serious subject.

I made these videos (one with juggling, one without) because of my love and reverence for America’s founding principles, and my concern for their (and our) future. I don't think most Americans know exactly how far down the road of abandoning these principles we've traveled.  My goal was to put together this information in as accurate, compelling and entertaining a way as possible. I hope you'll find it  worthy of sharing with your friends, just as you did Abbey Road.

We’ve come to believe that we are powerless in the face of these kinds of challenges, but it’s not true. We each have a tiny bit of power, and a large amount of people with a small amount of power is a large amount of power. The videos, combined with the materials on this site, are my way of asking you to plug that power in.

How and where do we start?  I’ve found it’s as simple as committing the time – even as little as 3-4 hours a week -  to stay informed, get involved, and participate as a citizen in the life of our country (however you choose to define that). On these specific issues, there are many fine groups dedicated to working on these issues (including my own nonprofit: www.MyBillofRights.org). That’s one reason I’ve included a list of keywords that are direct-to-google, so you can do your own research and find the ones you feel most in tune with. What follows is my personal “short list” of organizations you may not be familiar with:

Warrantless Wiretapping and Datamining:
The Electronic Frontier Foundation: www.eff.org.  They’ve been around since the dawn of the information age, and have the serious geek cred to help you fully understand the nature of this beast. See also the Center for Democracy and Technology at: www.cdt.org

Free Speech Zones:
The Foundation for Individual Rights in Education: www.thefire.org.  If you’re concerned with speech rights, particularly on our college campuses, they’re a terrific resource and effective advocate. See also The Thomas Jefferson Center For the Protection of Free Expression: www.tjcenter.org.

Habeas Corpus:
The Habeas Corpus Restoration Act (S 185), sponsored by Senators Specter of Pennsylvania and Leahy of Vermont, has been languishing in Congress since 2007. This is the silver bullet on this issue, so my suggestion is to hound your Senators and Congressman to get this bill on the floor and voted on. I know, it sounds hokey.  But I spent one summer working for a congressman, and believe me, they do respond to phone calls and letters (not so much to emails). Staying on top of your elected representatives is the quickest, easiest, and cheapest way to have an impact.
THE TOLL FREE NUMBER TO BE CONNECTED TO ANY MEMBER OF CONGRESS ON ANY ISSUE IS
888-355-3588

Torture and Extraordinary Rendition
Once again, call your Congressman and Senators, and tell them it matters to you. I have supported Amnesty International’s work in this area for years, but this is a case of getting our own house in order, which means telling your elected representatives loudly and clearly “not in the name of America.”

In closing, thanks for taking a look - whether you loved it, hated it, or thought it was a waste of your time.
